The short answer: at most luxury hotels, booking through a travel advisor costs the same as booking direct on the hotel's website. The rate is the same flexible rate. What changes is what comes with it. On most stays the advisor rate matches the best flexible rate on the hotel's own site. The exception is a prepaid, non refundable rate sold only online, which can be cheaper but gives up flexibility and usually the partner benefits.

If you are booking a single night at a business hotel on points, book it yourself. If you want the cheapest prepaid rate and your plans will not change, book it yourself. An advisor adds the most value on longer stays, peak dates, multi stop trips and anything where a mistake is expensive.
When an advisor makes sense
Milestone trips, family holidays across several rooms, villas, safaris, yacht charters and any trip with more than two moving parts. The benefits on a five night stay at a Four Seasons or Rosewood can be worth several hundred dollars on their own, before counting the time saved and the problems solved.
