Amanvari, Mexico: The East Cape Gets an Aman of Its Own
Amanvari is now open on the East Cape of Baja California Sur, where desert, estuary, mountains, and the Sea of Cortez meet. It is the first Aman in Mexico and, with only 18 casitas, one of the smallest new luxury resorts of 2026.

Eighteen casitas and a great deal of landscape
The scale is the first thing to understand. Eighteen casitas sit above the landscape, beside the estuary, or directly on the sand. Picture windows, terraces, and courtyards are designed around the view rather than around a single repeated floor plan. Travelers should compare not only category and price, but also the character of each location. Beachfront, estuary, and elevated positions will produce meaningfully different stays.
Amanvari is part of the 1,500 acre Costa Palmas estate, which includes 18 acres of orchards and farms and three miles of swimmable shoreline. That last detail matters on the East Cape, where not every beautiful beach is suitable for swimming.
Days can be active without becoming busy
Sailing, diving, snorkeling, hiking, and horseback riding are all part of the current experience list. The Sea of Cortez gives the resort a strong marine focus, while the Sierra de la Laguna and inland canyons add a genuine land based counterpoint.
The best itinerary will resist the temptation to schedule everything. Amanvari makes sense as a place for one significant outing followed by an unhurried afternoon, not a base for constant transfers up and down the coast.
Dining and wellness have real depth
The dining collection includes Sesui for Japanese cooking, Arva for Italian dishes, Luma for open fire Baja flavors, and The Lounge for drinks and lighter moments. The estate's farms and orchards should give the kitchens a direct connection to local produce, though menus and venue schedules will change with the season.
The spa has six treatment rooms, two Hydro Houses with banya and hammam facilities, a 24 hour fitness center, and a contemporary temazcal. It is a substantial program for a resort with so few keys, and may be one of the strongest reasons to plan more than a short weekend.

This resort is likely to suit travelers who value privacy, landscape, and a low room count more than a long list of nightlife options. It should work particularly well for couples, quiet celebrations, or a restorative finish to a broader Mexico itinerary. San José del Cabo International Airport is approximately 45 to 60 minutes away by car, while helicopter transfers are listed at about 15 minutes.
